I am putting together a home security system that was going to be operated by a PC. These PoE injectors are easy and quick to put into place. It does not get any simpler than opening the package, plug one end into the power adapter and the other into the camera.
For those that don't realize this, the PoE uses the unused pairs of cables in a cat 5 cable and allows power to be transmitted through those lines. It is nice if you need to put a network switch somewhere where power is not easily available.
These injectors allow for any voltage wall wort/device. I don't know the voltage drop off over longer runs, but there will be. You will need to be aware of that limitation. These are a great buy if you are running shorter distances (probably up to 50' or so). I bought the D-Link PoE injector for more money. The D-Link uses a 48 volt transformer and the voltage setting is on the adapter itself. It is limited to 5 or 12 volts to the device. The D-Link, with a 48 volt source, will probably be a better device to use if you are running these to the Cat5 length limit of 100 meters.
There are two plug sizes that I am aware of. Make sure you have the right size plugs before ordering. If you are unsure which size to get, take the device over to Radio Shack. They have plugs that can be used to get the exact size plug. Most devices around are the 5.5mm x 2.1 mm. These plugs are very small and not the typical sized plugs. It is the size of the Foscam FI8908W camera.
Good little device. It appears to be well made and super easy to install.
