My new Kindle and cover arrived shortly after Christmas, courtesy of a gift certificate from my brother. I researched the Amazon customer comments very carefully before deciding on the M-Edge Capital, and I have not regretted my choice.
The materials and the construction are top-of-the-line. If anything ever happened to this case, I would order a replacement "Capital" in a New York second. I chose purple (for fun)and was pleased to find the color a deep jewel-toned grape, nothing brash or gaudy, and certainly not cheap-looking. Every stitch, inside and out is perfect. The exterior microfibers are not advertized as stain-resistent, but I have wiped it down as needed with a damp cloth and the cover still looks brand spanking new. The interior of the case is a soft grey suede-type material, a couple of shades lighter than the "graphite" of the Kindle--very classy looking.
I was totally impressed by how super-securely the Kindle rests in this case. The pictures of the case show precisely how the M-Edge fasteners work. It's very easy to install and remove the Kindle from this case. You can shake it open, upside-down, any way you like, and the Kindle does not budge, not the tinyest bit. (There're also no metal clips to break away or potentially damage your Kindle as on the beautiful looking, but weirdly designed Amazon case.) The zipper is great and was a major selling point for me--high quality nylon coil and perfectly matches the color of the case. The fittings are metal and the zipper tabs sturdy and sized well for any size hand. I highly recommend the zippered case to any ladies planning to tote their Kindle in a purse. I don't have to worry about anything soiling or damaging my Kindle. And it keeps the uncovered USB port on the bottom of the Kindle clean as a whistle.
I like the soft flexible spine which makes the case easy to hold while reading. I have done the backwards zip thing, but the Kindle and case are perfectly comfortable with the front cover simply folded backward. All of the controls, buttons, and ports are easily accessible with the Kindle in the case. I have a fairly small hand and the case works for me. This case would work great for a man with large hands, too--gives you something to hold onto.
I had the opportunity to see most of the other M-Edge case designs at a local Best Buy--all the styles except the Capital. To my eye, the Capital was by far the most attractive and best designed Kindle case M-Edge offers. I also purchased the M-Edge e-luminator booklight. It fits the case perfectly and is without argument the best booklight I've ever used, and I must have had a dozen over the years. The case zips around the light and keeps everything safe and clean. (And there's plenty of room in the case spine to lay a spare battery alongside the gooseneck of the e-luminator, if you wanted to pack an extra for traveling.) I don't bother rotating the light position to the "top" of the Kindle. I adjust the gooseneck to shine from the side and there are no shadows or variation in illumination on the Kindle "page". In fact, I think it works better that way.
In response to topics addressed in a couple of the other reviews, just in case you're wondering:
My Capital case had no bad odor. I actually had to put my nose on the case and inhale to smell anything at all--and it wasn't unpleasant in the slightest.
I've had no difficulty accessing wi-fi, and my Kindle has been installed in the case since I received it.
As far as the weight of the Kindle plus this particular case, I find it light, easy on the hands, problem-free. I have carpal tunnel, with occasional difficulties of numbness and tingling in my hands and fingers. Reading in bed, even with a paperback novel can cause me problems. The Kindle and case does not require me to grip as strongly and I have no problems with my Kindle. Yay!
FIVE MONTHS LATER... I thought I would add a little extra praise for this great product. I take my Kindle everywhere with me. If it's not in my hands, it's in my purse or beside me waiting until I have a spare moment. It has endured hundreds of hours of handling and is zipped/unzipped at least a half dozen times a day. I'm not the most careful person in the world, but I don't abuse my belongings either. So, given what I would describe as "average" wear over the last five months, my M-edge Capital case is in perfect (I'm not exaggerating) condition. It looks as it did brand-new, fresh from the box. Perhaps there's a "Dorian Gray" look-a-like rapidly aging in some Kindle case gallery. This thing may never wear out. Maybe I'll treat myself to a new one when I upgrade my Kindle 3 in the years to come.
