TRENDnet 450 Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router TEW-691GR (Piano Black) Review

TRENDnet 450 Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router TEW-691GR (Piano Black)

I've spent the last few months dealing with a horrible wireless n router so I decided to go with this one. I also have a TREDNnet wireless n gaming adapter and it's been fantastic so far. Anyways, this router runs cool even though I've been using multiple connections at the same time and using tons of traffic. My PC shows that I average 250Mbps and I see it peak at 300 constantly so the speed is as advertised. I have it running in mixed mode. It only took about 10 minutes to set the router up out of the box. Once I plugged in my cable modem and my pc it automatically configured the connection and I just had to log in and configure the wireless portion and security. In the 10 minutes I also configured my DDNS and my wireless IP Cameras to work with the router. It's a super easy interface.....pretty much the same as any other router you can buy. When saving settings the reboot only took a few seconds and always went back into the setup. Most routers clunk out and you have to reset and log back in manually. I could go on and on but to keep this short I'd have to say that this router is awesome and it does EXACTLY as advertised. I've used most of the major brands of routers and I can't say much for most. It's very difficult to find a good reliable product but I think I've gotten lucky with this one. Don't believe hype or buy something because you've heard the name before. The only other router I've ever been happy with was a Viewsonic believe it or not. That thing was rock solid and never gave me a single problem. If anything changes I will post it....otherwise you can count on this router. I love how people here are claiming they have advanced knowledge but can't set this router up. It's really very very simple just follow the quick setup in the manual.
*UPDATE 1/17/10*
Still no reset needed! I've been using tons of data with multiple devices. As a matter of fact Netflix is streaming to my living room right now. I have a torrent downloading on this pc @ 500kB/s and there are no hiccups. Just solid lightning fast connections!
*UPDATE 3/14/10*
Still no reset needed. I'm running in Mixed Mode and you MUST run 20/40 on the Bandwidth to get full speed. That must be the problem with others but this is standard with any N router.

802.11N Travel Router 300MBPS N Travel Router with Magnet Mount Review

Bought this to use with my iPad and it works great over a WAP2 encrypted connection. I had tried the TRENDnet Wireless-N Travel Router (TEW-654TR) first, but returned after several issues. This Engenius ETR9330 Travel Router worked right out of the box, and I configured it wireless right from my iPad using the browser based admin panel. Really like the multiple SSID feature so I can create my own connection and then provide a different connection for others around me with a different password and different configuration. If you know 0% about configuring a router, I'm not sure how good the wizard is at walking you through changing settings, as I configured manually, and it probably has about any manual setting you could imagine. Also, half the price of an Apple Airport!

M-Edge Executive iPad Jacket, Black Review

M-Edge Executive iPad Jacket, Black
Average Reviews:

Just got this case for my iPad yesterday. In the 24 hours I've owned it, I've really liked the style, how it looks just like the note pad I've carried with me for the last decade. Totally like that.
But I'm not loving the "tongue" flap, only thing preventing me from giving it 5 stars. Understand what M Edge was trying to, but when I have it open like a book, tucking the thing behind the iPad, it feels like a little loop. Maybe I just need to "work" it a little more, but then, one shouldn't have to pay $50 for a simple case and have to "work" to get it right.
BTW, if you're in NYC, J&R is selling it for $45.

Lowepro Classified 160 AW Shoulder Bag for DSLR and 1-2 Lenses (Sepia) Review

Lowepro Classified 160 AW Shoulder Bag for DSLR and 1-2 Lenses (Sepia)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a perfect bag for carrying:
- 1 DSLR camera with 70-200mm f/2.8 (i.e. big) zoom lens attached (mine is Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 which is comparable in size and weight with Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8)
- 1-2 additional lenses and/or flash (I put 17-80mm and 50mm f/1.8 lenses and the SB-400 flash
- a couple memory cards and extra battery
It's pretty sturdy and tight (with the stabilizing strap), but that's good because the camera and lens won't move much inside the bag.
Here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
1. Can fit SLR attached with the big 70-200mm f/2.8 lens (or equivalent)
2. Enough room for extra lenses and flash
3. Topload feature for easy access
4. Sturdy and good padding to protect the expensive equipment inside
5. Slim profile and more discreet design (vs some other pro camera bag)
6. Stabilizing strap to minimize movement
7. Lots of compartment for memory cards, batteries, lens cap, etc
8. Less than 3 lbs, and compact size
9. All weather cover is nice to have (and essential for professional)
10. Expandable (i.e. you can manage the divider/padding to create different size of space)
Cons:
1. Only take 1 full size SLR (I tried 2 D40s + 18-55mm and it works)
2. A bit pricey (for my amateur standard)
3. Close to 3 lbs (depend on how you see it)
4. Not a backpack model (if you prefer carrying backpack type bag when photographing)
5. Can't put your regular 15 inch laptop in this bag (however you can squeeze in the 8.9 inch netbook). If you want to add your regular notebook, you will need to get the Lowepro Classified 250 AW series
6. Might be a bit too much bag/space for a quick short trip where you don't need to bring your 70-200mm f/2.8 lens (use the Lowepro Topload Zoom series bag instead)
7. Not as easy (as I thought it would be) to pull out the camera in and out of the bag but it's reasonable (maybe it's because of the design and position of the zipper and the fact the bag is still stiff since it is new. I'm expecting it will get better as the bag will get softer/break-in with use)
In conclusion, this is a very good (and very stylish) bag if you want to carry a camera attached with the 70-200mm f/2.8 lens (or smaller lens), with 1-2 extra lens (smaller lenses than the 70-200mm f/2.8) and/or flash.

M-Edge Platform iPad Jacket, Pebbled Purple Review

M-Edge Platform iPad Jacket, Pebbled Purple
Average Reviews:

If you love the M-Edge Platform for your Kindle, you will love it for your iPad 2. It has exactly the same features and works just as well. All the other iPad 2 covers are way too complicated-lots of little snaps and velcro. This is the best.
Now the problems-it is much more expensive from Amazon, than from M-Edge. And Apple is not as smart as Amazon with the Kindle. You can charge the Kindle with the cover closed because Amazon offset the plug location. Not Apple-centered!
And I like the leather and the colors. But Amazon, get with it and reduce the price.

ASUS WL-330gE - Portable Wireless Access Point with 4 Functions: Access Point, Ethernet Adapter, Gateway, and Universal Repeater - 802.11b/g Review

ASUS WL-330gE - Portable Wireless Access Point with 4 Functions: Access Point, Ethernet Adapter, Gateway, and Universal Repeater - 802.11b/g
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought two of these, one to use as a wireless adapter and one as a repeater. My primary wireless router is a Dlink DIR-622 running the original 1.11 firmware.
Initial setup is fairly easy. The manual is TERRIBLE but you really don't need it for basic setup. Out of the box, or after a hard reset, the device is in "Gateway Mode" with it's DHCP server active and ready to hand out addresses in the 192.168.1 subnet. Connect it to a PC's ethernet port, open your browser to http://192.168.1.220 and you get the configuration screen. From there, it is easy to choose one of the other (3) modes and make a connection to your wireless network.
If you want to make additional configuration changes to other parameters, it gets harder. Once you switch from Gateway mode to one of the other (3), the device no longer acts as a DHCP server for the ethernet port; rather, it effectively becomes a device with a static IP of 192.168.1.220. To make additional configuration changes, you must open your PC's TCP/IP settings and change from DHCP (i.e., "obtain an IP address automatically") to a static address (i.e., "use the following IP address") in the 192.168.1 range. Only then can you again open your browser and use http://192.168.1.220 to access the device.
I setup the first unit in "Adapter mode", configured it for wpa2 and then connected it to my Dish Network 622 dvr. Everything connected and worked perfectly.
I have a large house with my wireless router at the North end, so signal quality at the South end of the house is poor. I configured the second wl-330ge for "Repeater mode" and placed it near the center of my house. Devices in the South end now get excellent signal quality from the centrally located wl-330ge repeater. Devices that used to get 6mbps now hit 35mbps.
Both my units came with firmware 2.0.1.8, but I noticed a newer 2.0.1.9 firmware on the ASUS web site with 11-23-2009 release date. As it mentioned a fix related to Repeater mode, I decided to download it and update both units. I then hard reset and reconfigured them. The one in Adapter mode still worked just fine. The one in Repeater mode ceased to function; devices would connect to it momentarily then lose the connection. After several hard resets and reconfiguration cycles, I gave up and flashed it back to 2.0.1.8, and it immediately started working again. If you are using Repeater mode, I recommend avoiding the 2.0.1.9 firmware.

M-Edge Executive iPad Jacket, Pebbled Purple Review

I purchased this cover from the M-edge website after trying 3 other cases. This is definitely the best one. I had purchased a similar case for my Kindle and this lives up to expectation. I love the purple color. The exeterior leather is a pebbled and nice quality. this case has inside pockets to put business cards, papers etc. None of the other cases I purchased or looked at had the inside pockets. The inside of the case is a soft grey seude. The case is versatile allowing you to use it as a stand. The ipad fits snuggly in the case. This is so much better than the apple case . You will not be disappointed with this case.
