Spent the better part of two days trying to configure this item in vain with at least four calls and three hours wasted with tech support just to end up with a bridge stuck in eternal boot mode (seems like a failing hard reset is not uncommon). Sent back to Amazon for a replacement and the new one worked like a charm after two minutes of hassle-free configuration (I would suggest linking it straight to your ethernet after setting a static IP on your pc and working via the bridge's IP address - skip the setup CD-ROM altogether - for detailed instructions, see Linksys' tech support website articles 304 and 534).
I use the bridge to connect a PS2 in our basement with our pc on the second floor (and opposite end) of our house and have a flawless connection with the BEFW11S4 router. I am very pleased with our final result - but very dissatisfied with the work it took to get here. My suggestion - if you follow directions and it doesn't work (i.e., stuck it boot mode, won't save your changes), don't mess with firmware, don't waste time talking to India, just return it for a replacement until it does work.

(More customer reviews)I bought another one of these to repeat my existing 900AP+'s signal to extend the range of my wireless network. It works great since I set it all up 2 weeks ago. I am not able to go all the way out to my backyard by the pool and still have Internet access on my laptop. This is very convenient when swimming or just laying and you get the urge to look something up on the Internet, but usually you don't because the PC is so far away. Not anymore. I am now able to bring my laptop out with me and maybe watch a DVD outside while I BBQ or just drink with my friends.
The repeater function looks like it only repeats other D-Link products. It also brings the speeds down to 11Mbps when you are connected to the network via the repeater. If you can get a signal with the main AP, then you are able to maintain your 22Mbps speeds.
Everything else about this AP has worked great for me as well and I'd highly recommend it.

(More customer reviews)I bought the WET610N for my Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-Ray Player. My options were either wired, which I didn't want to do, or buy a proprietary dongle from Samsung. I chose the option that Samsung did not mention - I bought the WET610N! The unit was easy to setup, and the instructions were clear. I've never been fond of using Linksys CD's to setup this kind of equipment, but I have to say it was painless and quick compared to some others I've seen. The value of this unit is simply that it will work with ANYTHING that wants a "wired" network connection. So, it doesn't matter if it's a video game system, a DVR type device, or as in this case a blu-ray DVD Player. For this reason, the unit is a great value and will be in use for a long time, even when the current equipment I am using it with now is long gone.

TRENDnet 54Mbps Wireless G Access Point TEW-430APB (Blue) Review

(More customer reviews)I have a couple of computers in one room, connected via LAN to a Linksys Wireless G router/access point, which is connected to a DSL modem. I wanted to put another computer an an Ethernet-attached printer on the floor above. The standard way to do this would be to run a Cat-5 cable from the Linksys router to a small hub on the upper floor, and connect the new computer and printer to it. It would be a long and complicated run, though, and would involve drilling through the floor. Not impossible, but I didn't really look forward to doing it.
This device seemed to be just what I was looking for: a way to replace a long run of Cat-5 cable with a wireless link. Put the TRENDnet Access Point on the upper floor along with a small hub (the Access Point has only one Ethernet jack), and plug the computer and printer into the hub.
The Access Point offers five modes of operation. The one I expected to use is called "WDS", for Wireless Distribution System. From the user manual, it appears as if this is the mode for just extending a LAN as I wanted to do. I was never able to get this mode of operation to communicate with the Linksys router. The manual is not well written, and the help windows from the Access Point's built in web server are even worse. Using browsers to look at the settings of both the Linksys and the TRENDnet, I verified that everything that I can set was entered correctly: Channel number, SSID, passphrases, MAC addresses, everything. No connection was ever made, in WDS mode.
So I tried "AP + WDS" mode; still nothing worked.
Finally I tried "AP Client" mode, in which (quoting now) "the AP will be a wireless Ethernet adapter transforms any Ethernet-enabled devices to have the wireless function." From the diagram, it would seem that only one device (computer, printer) could be attached. I tried connecting the switch with both computer and printer to the Access Point in this mode, and finally it all works.
Now that it's working, it is doing just what I wanted it to. The new computer can access the internet and share files with the ones downstairs, the downstairs computers can print on the upstairs printer, and so on.
The poor manual and even worse help text really drags this product down. I would have rated it much higher if it hadn't required so much experimentation to get it going.

(More customer reviews)Home networking can be a real pain especially for someone like me who knows enough to be dangerous but not enough to be a network installer. I have a wireless router burried in my basement that wasn't getting signal to my upstairs part of the house. I tried two other different products 1) two routers connected to each other and 2) a Hawking repeater. I ended up wasting a lot of time with them and they just didnt work or had compatibility issues. I took a plunge on the no brand trendnet based on this other positive review and he was 100% right. The price is 50% cheaper than the comparable Linksys N switch and does exactly as advertised. Setup took 5 minutes and I now have coverage all over my house. No issues so far.

(More customer reviews)I did a lot of research before purchasing a solution for my home wireless network. I read a lot of horror stories about people having a hard time setting things up, connections dropping, etc., so I was a little spooked about spending a lot of money for something that might be a pain. Boy was I in for a surprise.
I picked this NetGear product because I have had good experiences with their products in the past, and hadn't really heard anything particularly bad about this product. When it arrived, I was VERY impressed. I simply plugged it in, connected it to my Ethernet hub, put my new network card into my laptop (I bought the NetGear HA501 at the same time), and viola! It just worked! No complicated setting to configure, nothing to change on my laptop, my network, nothing. And its range is outstanding.
Also, for those of you trying to decide between 802.11a and 802.11b, choose 802.11a. While you might see just a little perceived increase in speed, the reliability of your connection is so much better. With 802.11a you don't have to worry about microwaves, cell phones, cordless phones, and other devices interfering. With 802.11b there is so much interference that connections can (and do) drop or be very flaky.

NETGEAR WGPS606 54 Mbps Wireless Print Server with 4-port Switch Review

(More customer reviews)I have a wirelss network w/3 pc's, one Mac Powerbook, w/netgear router, and now the WGPS606 netgear printserver (my motorola WPS870G was half the $$$ and easier to set up on my Powerbook, but got killed by lightning storm yesterday); I have an old laserjet & HP officejet d145. Contrary to rumors, you can get the WPS870G to printserve wirelessly from Mac/OSX through the network (i.e., powerbook is wireless, printserver is also wireless)
1-I set a dedicated IP address in my router to associate w/my printserver...To do this: in 192.168.0.1 (which is the router) I renewed IP addresses, looked into the router's assignment table, and figured out that the printserver was at 192.168.0.4, so I just assigned it to 192.168.0.4; to do the assignment, you also need the device (i.e., the printserver's) MAC address; that's the trick...the MAC address on the netgear printserver is called the "device" or "hardware" MAC address, and it's the number printed on the box itself; if you go to the printserver ip address (in my case, 192.168.0.4), you find netgear's set up pages for the printserver; the printserver has two mac addresses, the 2nd is called something like the `wireless' MACaddress; that wireless MAC address (which is only different by one digit at the end) is what you use when you set up a dedicated IP address for the print server; when you've done all this, you should probably go back into 192.168.0.1 (your router set up pages) try to renew ip addresses to see if the assigned printserver address (in my case, 192.168.0.4) shows up and shows up with the right MAC address
3- when setting up a new printer in printer set up utility, you select IP Printing + LPD/LPR, printer address is your new ip address that you assigned (192.168.0.4 in my case) and queue name is L1 (presumably L2 if you have a second printer)
btw, you may need to upgrade the driver (I needed an HPIJS driver for my multi-function HP d145); the original driver didn't even install from the cd

Background:
I honestly hated Netgear. The nightmares I had with my old setup were terrible. I constantly had to reboot the router; the bridge required me to reconnect wireless devices in a certain order every time; my fiance's Apple never stayed connected long; bittorrent, VPN and video streaming knocked the router out the few times it was working; and the customer service is just horrible. I swore I'd never buy another Netgear product, but I finally had to buy something that would at least work for my fiance. I waited a few months for 802.11n to mature a bit, and was going to get the DLINK DIR-655. Recently it's had horrible firmware issues though and the other brands had low reviews. Then along came the WNDR3700.
The reviews were great so I picked it up and this bridge. I fully expected it to work as badly as my previous Netgear products, but I felt I had to give it a shot.
Conclusion:
I've had this product connected to my WNDR3700 for two days now and it works flawlessly. I have had many wireless setups and this is the best I've ever seen. I've seen people complain that it's on the 5Ghz frequency only, but it works great. All of my other systems are wired or on the 2.4Ghz frequency so I have very little overlap. Of course the WNDR3700 is dual-band so that may not be the same for everyone. I will update this if anything changes but for now I'm extremely happy. It could work at half the speed it does and I would still be happy to have something that just works for once.
Update:
Everyone in my home has problems with the iphone and this router. We constantly get disconnected. It's a known issue on their forums. There is a recent update that helps a lot but almost everyday I still lose my connection and have to re-enter my password. Otherwise this router is still working amazingly. I've only had to reset it one time.
Update:
The last update pretty much fixed the iphone issues. I rarely have to reconnect my phone anymore. If you plan on using the USB storage part of the device though I'd recommend reading the Netgear forums. Some people have had some issues with this.

Buffalo Technology Nfiniti Wireless-N Dual Band Ethernet Converter WLI-TX4-AG300N Review

(More customer reviews)I recently purchased a Sony Bravia HDTV and a Panasonic Blu-Ray player. Both came with Ethernet ports but not wireless ones. I have a wireless-N network, so I found that I needed a wireless Ethernet bridge for these two new devices. They sell two bridges at Best Buy (D-link, Linksys), but they get poor reviews, cost $100, and only have a single Ethernet port each (requiring that I buy two bridges or one bridge and a hub). Many of the bridges on Amazon also have sketchy reviews. However, I saw some Buffalo devices that looked potentially interesting, with multiple ports and positive reviews on some models. So, I gave this one a shot since it comes directly from Amazon (instead of a 3rd party seller) and looks similar to other Buffalo devices that are reviewed positively. These reviews of other models warned of possible difficulties (e.g., poor documentation, issues with Windows Vista, issues connecting to non-Buffalo wireless routers that are using encryption) but claimed these difficulties could be surmounted.
I got the bridge this evening and it was simple and easy to install on my network. I simply connected it directly to my PC via its Ethernet port, ran the setup disk, fed the setup program the information about my network and its encryption, and that's it. I put the bridge in my den, connected it to my TV, and I was immediately able to watch Internet-only HDTV content on my Sony Bravia (e.g., Amazon video).
The whole thing took about 15 minutes from opening the box, configuring it via my PC, and popping it on my TV. Hard to see how this could be better, so I'm giving this 5 stars for now to alert folks to the utility of this product, but if I run into problems later I'll update this review.

This review is based on over 2 months worth of testing this unit and then working with Linksys/Cisco trying to figure why it does not deliver. A saleperson at a local store may have told you that you can stream MP3s over your wireless network, or perhaps you have two DVRs in your house and your want to stream recorded TV shows from one to another. This is not the device you want to use for this purpose. Don't belive me? Ask Linksys level 3 support. Its architecture is not designed to support high levels of network traffic needed for streaming -- it has very small or zero I/O buffers to handle it -- as a result, the device will crash after 2-5 minutes of streaming. You can power cycle it and it will resume for the next 2-5 min. But forget streaming for a moment, WET54G crashed when I was simply working from home VPN'd into my company. Not for that either?! Do you think that WET54G ver 2 is better than WET54G ver 1? Been there, don't waste your time -- the architecture is the same. Alternatives? WET54GS5 might be better, but I'm yet to find that out myself. I know you want to try it yourself. Piece of advice -- buy at a retail store, and if it doesn't work, return within 30 days. Do not get into RMA exchanges with Linksys - unless you enjoy 2 months of 2-3 hours/day trying to get your money back.

NETGEAR ME102 - Wireless access point 32 - Ethernet Review

(More customer reviews)I just received my ME102 today, and it was up and running in 5 minutes (not counting the time required to drive the screws [included] to wall-mount the unit near one of my Ethernet switches).
I didn't find the USB-based configuration to be ideal. To be sure, it worked well. But I don't like installing drivers and software on my PC that will be used only once or occasionally, and the rest of the time just adds more junk to the Windows registry and is yet another thing added to program groups. (I have issues with clutter.)
In any case, as others here have mentioned, documentation is sparse indeed. And frankly, if you don't know your TCP/IP network pretty well, and/or don't know the basics of wireless Ethernet concepts, you might well find yourself in over your head. The default configuration is far from one-size-fits-all, and the average home computer user will have trouble changing it -- especially with the somewhat non-intuitive interface to the config software.
All that said, once this baby is set-up and running, it's great. I get terrific range and excellent performance, even with a basement mounted access point.
My only caution: Beware of your 2.4 GHz cordless phones. This would be true of any 802.11b set-up, but some of these cordless phones will chew-up your data stream and spit it out in chunks on the carpet. Here, I have my choice between using the wireless Ethernet, or using a Panasonic 2.4 GHz phone... Any attempts to use both, and the phone wins. (The Panasonic is going in the trash very soon; a Uniden 2.4 GHz model cooperates fine.)

(More customer reviews)Unit is solid and sturdy and has a bit of a utilitarian look to it. The software that comes with it lets you manage multiples of these devices at a time at a layer 2 level, meaning even if you don't know what it's IP address it, it'll find it and you can set it.
I had never setup WPA enterprise before, so it took a little bit of googling and trial and error, but I did get this going.
Device seems "faster" than the Linksys WAP54G we have been using.
I will be getting additional units to replace all the SOHO Linksys & Dell APs we've got in our organization all currently running WEP...

Pros:
* Great wireless range
* Compact design
* Reasonably fast re-boots as it is configured
Cons:
* In-box documentation is too skimpy for many people to set it up without a support call
* Configuration application lacks the supporting instructions supplied by other manufacturers (NetGear)
* A little pricey - but performance makes up for it
I use a LinkSys router in my home network, which has a default IP of 192.168.1.1. The DAP-2553 uses a default IP of 192.168.0.50, so have to change its IP to one that uses 192.168.1.x for it to work, and the in-box documentation does not tell you how do do this. Fortunately, D-Link's excellent product support got me going in a few minutes, and without grilling me about the product serial number or when I had purchased it (NetGear's support is a pain).
If you're setting up one of these on a LinkSys network, here's what you'll need to do:
* Connect your DAP-2553 directly to a computer using the enclosed Ethernet cable (with your computer's WiFi turned off)
* Manually set your computer's IP address to 192.168.0.54 (Go to Control Panel | Network | Change Adapter Settings, then right-click on Local Area Connection and select Properties. Select Internet Protocol 4, then Properties, then Use the following IP address. Put in IP, leave Subnet mask at 255.255.255.0, and set Default gateway to 192.168.0.50 to reach your DAP-2553). Hit OK.
* Open a browser and point it to 192.168.0.50
* Log in using the DAP-2553's supplied login info, and go to Basic Settings | LAN
* Set IP address to 192.168.1.50 (this puts it on the map for your LinkSys router)
* Set the default gateway to your LinkSys router's address - probably 192.168.1.1
* Select Apply
* Remember to re-set your computer's IP address back to DHCP, or whatever it was before (Assuming you were using DHCP - Go to Control Panel | Network | Change Adapter Settings, then right-click on Local Area Connection and select Properties. Select Internet Protocol 4, then Properties, then Obtain an IP address automatically). Hit OK.
* Disconnect your DAP-2553 from the computer and connect the DAP-2553 into your network.
* If it works, you should now find your DAP-2553 at 192.168.1.50 and be able to finish wireless configuration to your preferences.
* Rejoice.

ZyXEL WAP3205 Wireless N access point, Ethernet client, and universal repeater Review

(More customer reviews)Once you have it setup it works flawlessy. Problem is setting it up for the first time. Documentation is not user friendly to the non-tech savvy. I'm using it as a wireless bridge / access point with my Sony blue-ray player. I already have a Linksys wireless router using WEP encryption (forced to use this because my XBOX 360 doesn't support WPA). To make it easy for others doing the same thing use the following steps:
1. Change your pc or laptop's ethernet adapter's IP address to 192.168.1.3 To do this on Vista or Windows 7 you open you network sharing center then you open your ethernet LAN adapter settings (or manage network connections in Vista). Select the Internet protocol v4 (IPv4) and go into properties. Manually put in the IP address with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and don't worry about the gateway address.
2. Connect your WAP3205 to your pc/laptop with the ethernet cable that is provided. Of course make sure you plugged in the power to it or your going nowhere. Open up your preferred browser (IE, firefox, netscape, etc.) and then type in the address bar 192.168.1.2 and now you will be connected to the WAP3205. Type in the default password of 1234, you are now prompted to change your password to whatever you want it to be.
3. Now that your in the WAP3205 click on Expert Mode. When in this mode on the far left you will see Status and below it Monitor, Configuration and Maintenance. Click on Maintenance and then hit the plus sign in front of Maintenance once you are in. Go to the last option of Sys OP Mode then select Client Mode and hit apply.
4. Go back to the far left and hit configuration then go to Wireless LAN. You will see tabs for Profile, Site Survey and WPS. Hit the Profile tab and then hit the Add button. Type in your network name / SSID and then select your security drop down box. Select WEP if you have a setup like me with the XBOX 360 or if you don't care about security select the no security option. Type in your passphrase that you use for your router's security or the actual 128 bit security code (or 64 bit if that is what you use) and hit apply. Then select your newly created profile and hit the activate button. If it's configured correctly you will get a green check. Now your done on this end.
5. Disconnect your WAP3205 from your pc/laptop and change your pc or laptop's ethernet adapter settings back to whatever it was before.
6. Go to your blue-ray player and disconnect the power cord for about a minute or more. Connect the WAP3205 to the blue-ray player with the ethernet connection and power your blue-ray player back on. The blue-ray player will automatically pick up the network settings from the WAP3205 and you will be done.
Hope this is helpful and if you don't have an XBOX 360 or if you use WPA for security the setup should be easier.
So far so good with the Zyxel WAP3205...I had used the Linksys WET610N (2 separate units) and they both failed. The first one worked a couple of days before the wireless stopped working and the second one's wireless failed right out of the box. The WET610N's are way easier to configure but they are too expensive and for me totally unrealiable. The WAP3205 is a steal and worth the effort when you consider the rock solid connection I have now, besides it was less than half the price of the Linksys. It's not as nice looking as the Linksys that's for sure but the main thing is it works as described.
